Media Overload!

Another day, another dollar, it's 8 a.m.

I have my iPod on my iPhone streaming to my Bose Wave System, belting out the sweetest sounds of Amos Lee and Springsteen.  Sounds like I'm at a concert, my neighbors below feel the same way.  I unplug my DVI adapters from my MacBook Pro. (It's as if I almost feel like a better person when I stream Netflix from my Mac to my LG flat screen. It's so good, it really should be illegal).  I sit in front of my Pro navigating through iGoogle and come across something interesting (if you do not have iGoogle, you are missing out on the essentials of life).

By the way, the last paragraph is totally irrelevant. I just wanted to prove I am a digital media wizard and have exceptional taste in music.

Now, what exactly I came across in iGoogle is irrelevant as well (i know, a lot of irrelevancy in my writing...stay with me).  It was so interesting I decided to share it with all of my friends.  As soon as I sprung into action, it was like the war of the worlds....only like, war of super media powers...

Do I post my special find on Facebook and hope everyone is logged on to take a look? Do I travel back in time to MySpace, comment on everyone's wall and know that 12 is the average age group in which it would fall?  Do I venture to Twitter for friends to see? I would definitely go over one-forty. Would Google Buzz be a good fit- do I have enough followers that it would hit? I could get it out with a long blog post, but I only have 2 minutes at the most.

Or do I mute my iPod, turn my iPhone off, power down my Wave player, give my TV a rest, shut down the Pro, log out of Google, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and Blogger, sit down with pen and paper, and send a telegram...

Lie To Me and the iPhone 4

Sweet product placement! FOX's hit show, Lie To Me, featured the new iPhone 4 in last night's epi. It's hard to admit, but the 30 seconds of mobile perfection stole the show.

In the show, Tim Roth used the iPhone 4 feature everyone is buzzing about, FaceTime.

"With the tap of a button you can wave hello to your kids, share a smile from across the globe, or watch your best friend laugh at your stories." - Apple  ....sounds like even Mother Teresa would love it.

FaceTime is a video call, perfect for Time Roth who plays the world's leading deception expert in the show. Although I could think of a couple contacts I'd rather not use that feature with, it is absolutely timeless and yet again, Apple has blown our digital minds.

Benefits of a Facebook Page vs. Facebook Profile

- a Profile tops your friend list off at 5,000

Pages offer adminʼs metrics reports.

- On a week-over-week basis, reports will measure reach, viral
impact, responder insights, and engagement of visitors to the Page

- itʼs against Facebook Terms of Use to use a Profile for a business

- Facebook Pages are indexed by search engines, profiles are not (SEO

- Pages offer its own ʻDiscussionʼ tab for users to chat about your company/team/organization

- when someone ʻlikesʼ a Page, it is permanently displayed in the Info section of that users
Profile, unlike if the user became a ʻfriendʼ of a Profile

- a Page allows more than one administrator

Twitter Says NO to In-Stream Ads, DUH!

People are still confused by Twitter. But for different reasons than the typical 40-something trying to grasp the value of it, in which they will find it inevitably does not exist.

You either work for Twitter and tweet daily, or it comes and goes in phases. Basically you're in the New Media industry or extreme boredom happens to combine with an accidental tap on the dusty Echofon icon on your iPhone. Tweeters are few and far between these days.

What is the difference between tweeting and updating your status on Facebook though? There is a difference, I promise. Afterall if the two moguls were the same, they would not have co-existed for so long. Twitter is a time-sensitive, behind-the-scenes outlet for quick information.  All the fluff: Sally is attending... Kristen likes... Joe and Jack are now friends! ...makes Twitter want to throw up.

It's a bit more personal as well. Instead of "Going to FL this weekend", it's "Walking along the shoreline, sun beating, feeling the cool, wet sand squish between my toes".  It's the excitement of actually connecting with your favorite athletes or movie stars on a personal level, FABEWASH31: "Dr. Andrews told me I was doing great and I'll be ready for camp".

I saw the headline "Twitter Bans In-Stream Ads" in my Google Reader this morning.  I immediately knew what the blog post (by RWW) was about and why Twitter had made the decision.

With less and less people tweeting, the last thing tweeters need is to deal with in-stream ads while logged on.  The reasoning from Twitter COO, Dick Costolo, to "preserve the unique user experience Twitter has created" and keep the "long-term health and value of the platform."

C'mon Tweeters, let's get back to the basics of Twitter! At least Mr. Costolo is preventing potential future annoyances. Thanks Dick.

Post-Media Rev

Here we are ... May 2010. The New Media slap-in-the-face is over. Google, Social Networking, Web Video, Blogs, Mobile Apps, Widgets and Gadgets are just a few universal terms now. The question is, are we feeling the sting? Are we learning the lesson and waking up to what communication technology has to offer? Or are we head-down, face cupped in hands?

Half of society is left in the dust as the natural progression of multimedia madness encompasses their world. As for the other half, we're all in a race ... rushing to see who can connect this widget with that social media account not only first, but in the quickest, easiest way possible. Who has the most profitable, efficient business model that may give us a glimpse into the future?

Media friends and fellow bloggers, let's take a look into the Post-Media Revolution. From iGoogle to Online Visual Media, what's evolving? How does it work and how does it affect us?

One thing holds true, Media is still Rising, rising in 50 million directions. Stick around and we'll try to hold on for the ride!
